Penzance Literary Festival

5th – 8th July 2023

Over four exciting days, Penzance will host an eclectic selection of talented authors, writers, performers and poets with writing workshops, books readings, author talks and much much more! Plus a festival fringe taking place in Penzance and beyond.

We are especially excited that on Friday 7th 8 – 9.30pm, local poet Gray Lightfoot has asked Cornwall Writers to read out two short stories from their anthology Cornwall Secret and Hidden: The Triumph of Goliathia Tremayne by Catherine Leyshon and Up Frogs by Ross James. We will also be selling copies of our books at the event.

Gray will also be performing his own poetry and a one-act play with two actors, including another of our talented writers, Kate Barden.

All these performances address the issues that make Cornwall the second poorest region in Northern Europe, of which the millions of holidaymakers often remain unaware.

Gray’s drama Sea Fear is a conversation between an old poet and a young Redruth mother whose children have never been to the beach. It is set on Carn Brea – and has a happy ending.
