Nick Serpell

Biography

Nick Serpell is a former BBC journalist. He began his broadcasting career with Pirate FM before moving to BBC Radio Cornwall where he worked as a reporter and presenter. He then moved to work on the BBC’s rolling news channel, then called News 24,  in London before spending ten years as the BBC’s Obituary Editor, chronicling the lives of some of the most famous people on the planet.

Since leaving the BBC he has trained as a professional genealogist which has allowed him to combine his twin passions of history and research. Many of his clients are descendants of the thousands of Cornish people who were forced to leave their native land to find new opportunities abroad.

Nick, who was brought up on the family farm,  can trace his own ancestry in Cornwall back to the mid-16th century. Away from his writing and research work, rugby is his passion, and he believes there is no better place to be on a Saturday afternoon than the Recreation Ground at Redruth, watching his team in action.
