The inspiration for Hidden in Time: a Legend of Saint Wenappa

Author Jo Grande tells us about the inspiration for her short story ‘Hidden in Time: a Legend of Saint Wenappa.’

She came from Welsh Christian nobility, and married a Christian Cornish King. Three of her relations are saints, and one became a Christian martyr. As Queen, and a landowner in Cornwall, Wenappa immersed herself in caring for the mining community on her land in Gwennap, the place named after her. She built a church and a monastery there, where sick or injured people could be tended. She created the change from pagan beliefs to Christianity among the people in her orbit, and saw the area prosper with the export of tin and copper from Gwennap port at Bissoe.

The story is in the anthology ‘Cornwall: Secret and Hidden‘ by Cornwall Writers
